In middle age, there is a tendency to moderate; to grow conservative and slow down. All you have to do is lie to yourself. As you meditate on aging, there is a transition from one state of understanding to another – reflected in joy and regret.

Some choose the inverse path, with the forces of time and intellect pushing and pulling at each other in a violent war of wills and a suspicion of the status quo.

Do not go gentle, my ass.

Untouched and undefiled by the usual inheritances of family and culture, wistful with remorse, I remove my disguise. I am aging without grace, grasping and reaching for meaning – and holding without caring once I find something that resembles the truth.

“Alterszorn” (the rage of age) is a five channel video and sound installation depicted as a suspended, inverted cross. The vertical stroke represents the through line of belief and intellect, the horizontal is a timeline. At the center are moments of convergence where we find why life is worth living.

Alterszorn premiered in the "Shifting Horizons" exhibition at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center, Thailand; March 23rd to July 10th 2016
